Rosemary Chukwuma tops Team Nigeria’s list to Youth Olympic Games Argentina

The Athletics Federation Nigeria has listed 45 athletes for the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina. You would recall that in 2014, Team Nigeria and some other African nations were not allowed to compete due to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. Though after the Ebola virus was controlled, those countries affected had their own Games in 2015.

Commonwealth Bronze medalist, Rosemary Chukwuma who is the most experienced athlete on the team to the Games slated for Oct 6-18 in Argentina will be competing in the Girls 100m & 200m. Rosemary who felt really sad for missing the 2017 World Youth Championships in Kenya has now represented Nigeria on two occasions and she has won 4 MEDALS. She was at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast in April where she alongside Olympic medalist, Blessing Okagbare, CWG100mh Champ Tobi Amusan and West African fastest U20, Joy Udo-Gabriel clinched the Bronze medal in the Women’s 4x100m.

The youngster who is under Kids And Play Club was also at the just concluded ECOWAS U20 Games in Cape Coast, Ghana where she finished 2nd in the 100m and 3rd in the 200m final before winning another Silver medal in the 4x100m.  With her wealth of experience, Rosemary will be hoping to put up a wonderful performance in Argentina and also pick medals in the process.

Other athletes to watch out for are; 100m National Junior Champ and ECOWAS U20 Bronze medalist, Alaba Akintola, Favour Ofili– a talented 400m athlete and a Youth runner-up during the 2017 Athletic Heat Awards ran a 53s during an in-house trials at the Youth camp earlier this week, Erhire Omamuyovwi who has scaled 1.95m in the  High Jump this season and Nigeria’s only home-based athlete to leap past 15m in the Triple Jump, Meyiwa Ine. He jumped a PB of 16.00m at the 3rd Golden League in Abuja. He also won the Triple Jump and finished 2nd in the Long Jump at the ECOWAS Games.
