Team Nigeria jets out to Gold Coast as two athletes get dropped at die-minute!

The Nigerian team to the XXVI Commonwealth Games will leave the shores of Nigeria tonight and will arrive Commonwealth Games village on Monday. Prior to their departure, there was pandemonium in the Camp suitated at Wuse Zone 7 in Abuja as two athletes were dropped from the team at the last minute.


The rest of the team were in high spirit as they left the WestPoint Hotel, Wuse Zone 7 this afternoon. Out of the 24-man homebased squad, 18 were accompanied by four Coaches; Endurance Ojokolo, Hakeem Oyewole, Olu Sule and Olalekan Soetan as well as the Technical Director, Sunday Adeleye. While the remaining 6 athletes will leave on Monday and will be accompanied by Coach Ishola Oladipupo.

Before their departure, Our correspondent spoke with some of the athletes and here’s their reaction.

“I would say am happy as usual Im mostly glad , my hard work came through for me and talking about the team generally, I’m expecting great things because we trained so hard for this and we are hoping God see us through” – Idjesa Uruemu

For me to perform well at this Games, I need to be more focused and determined”– Ogho Egwero
