CAA announces new date for African Junior Championships
There were speculations by Nigerian athletes and coaches as to whether or not they will have an opportunity to compete at The 2017 African Junior Championship which was earlier slated for March, 2017 due to some factors such as lack of preparation and no schedule from the Athletic Federation of Nigeria but luck has smiled on them as the Championships has been shifted to May 12 to 17, 2017 in Tlemcen, Algeria.
Algeria, who is hosting the African Junior Championships, have expressed its commitment to staging a world class event. President of the Algerian Athletic Federation Amor Bouras, who was on a tour to Kenya to inspect the organizational work of the 2017 World Youth Championships said preparations for the event are underway.
He has already met the Sports Minister who will visit the stadium which should be ready in April 2017. According to him, ‘’The Minister has agreed to receive a CAA delegation as Tlemcen which is a city 500km from Algiers is the plan B. For larger events, we deliver the visa at the airport; we have very good relationships with the Police. To increase the number of participants, we envisage to grant to each country, 1 ticket for one athlete and one ticket for one official.’’
So athletes be rest assured that by May, the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) would have gotten themselves together to organize a National Trail for the Championships. We wish every athlete a great 2017 athletic season!
