Greyhound Sports Management gifts’ cash rewards to athletes

For the dazzling performances by athletes at the Okowa Post COVID-19 Meet in Asaba held yesterday, November 6th, the Manager of Greyhound Sports Management, Sussex, Mr Oghenekaro Oboido decided to gift winners in the Sprint and some field events a cash prize of N10, 000 while 2nd place finishers get N5, 000 each.

Speaking with Athletic Heat, his motive is to encourage the athletes as the National Sports Festival is fast approaching. While he acknowledges that it was an impromptu giveaway, he however said he would love to extend to other events at subsequent competitions.

Grabbing a sum of N20, 000 is Jerry Jakpa who won both the 100m and 200m events with 10.55s and 21.13s. Other prize winners include Enoch Adegoke (10.60s) and Clifford John (21.67s) who finished behind Jakpa in both events respectively.

Top 2 in the women’s 100m, Grace Nwokocha (11.65s) and Joy Udo-Gabriel (11.77s) as well as Top 2 in the women’s 200m; Favour Ofili (23.60s) and Anita Taviore (23.95s) are also recipients of the cash Awards.

Pushing each other to jawbreaking PB’s in the men’s 400m, Atinaya Daniel (46.09s) and Sikiru Adeyemi (46.17s) will be partakers of the cake as they will be joined by their female counterparts; Nse Imaobong (53.16s) and Glory Patrick (54.46s).

Talented thrower, Princess Kara who smashed her previous Personal Best of 50.08m, won the event with 50.89m. It only shows that in no distant time and with more support she would comfortably top Africa. Nzube Zola also gets N10,000 for his Personal Best performance in the Men’s Triple Jump. He leaped 15.79m, his farthest in the last three years.

All winners will be contacted and duly paid.
