2018 National 400m Junior medalist, Knowledge Omovoh, joins Grand Canyon University, Arizona
400m specialist, Knowledge Omovoh has left the shores of Nigeria to pursue her education and athletics career.
The Delta native travelled to the United States earlier this month to join Grand Canyon University, Arizona, Phoenix where she is majoring in psychology.
Last weekend at the New Mexico Indoor Meet where National Junior 110mh Record Holder, Basiru Abdullahi ran a 60mh PB of 7.87s, Knowledge gave a good account of herself as well.
The 2018 National 400m Junior Bronze medalist made her indoor debut a week after her arrival in the States at the NAU Friday Night Duals on Jan. 11th finishing 5th in 57.94s in the 400m.
At the Air Force Team Challenge in Colorado on Jan. 17th placing 2nd the 400m in 56.62s.
She bettered her performance at the New Mexico meet last week, Jan. 26th running 55.85s to win her heat but ranked second overall.
Speaking with theathleticheat.com after her race last weekend, she shared her experience running indoors.
“Interesting!” She began. “Indoors is like a new thing to me, you get to learn how to run the 400m in a different way from what you’re use to,even when I’m still struggling to learn how to run the 400m outdoors.” She giggles.
“But I feel a little bit nervous each time I go out to compete, I have a total different strategy from my previous competition , because each meet has a different track size. This meet you’re on a 300m indoors track, the next meet 270m track and to a 200m banked track. At some point I just forget where and how break in, other times I get blocked while running.
“Sometimes it’s crazy because you have to run on locations with high altitude. For me it’s a whole learning process and preparation for outdoor season.” She concluded.
Knowledge will be competing at the Arizona mountain T’ s invite this weekend and hopefully she will run better as she gets used to competing across various indoor facilities. All the best in your collegiate career Champ!
