Uniport set to host 14th West African University Games
The 2018 West African University Games tagged “Uniport 2018” is set to hold from Oct 31st- Nov 12th at the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The Games which will feature 16 sports and 3000 athletes from +60 Universities across West Africa is aimed at fostering greater friendship among youths of the West African sub-region in addition to providing an opportunity for West African Universities to contribute to the development of highly skilled elite athletes among their students as done by Universities all over the world.
The Uniport Sports Director, Professor Ken Anugweje explained how they got the hosting right for this edition.
“It is usually a four year event and rotated round. The event was supposed to be hosted by University D’Abomey Calavi of Benin Republic. According to WAUG, you must hold 80% of the games in the school but when inspection was carried out, they were taken round Cotonou. WAUG had no choice but to withdraw the hosting rights and that’s how we were awarded. We have the facilities so no need going to construct,” he said
