Athletic Heat Ltd in partnership with Nigeria Athletics set to hold 1st Athletics in School Program (AISP)
All is set to hold the maiden edition of Athletics in Schools Programme (AISP), with Nigeria’s Fastest hurdler, Oyeniyi Abejoye at St. Finbarrs College, Akoka and CMS Grammar School, Bariga on Friday, Sept 28.
The project which is organised by two of the major Athletics blog sites in Nigeria, Athletics Heat Ltd in partnership with Nigeria Athletics, is targeted at promoting Track and Field culture among Nigerian secondary school students.
Athletic Heat Ltd is gradually gaining grounds in Nigeria as the trailblazer when it comes to promoting Nigerian athletes and the sport. We started off with the blog, a site dedicated to promoting Nigerian athletes, we are now a registered company licensed to carry out various sporting business. It’s worthy to note that, Athletic Heat Ltd is the only organization in the nation recognizing Nigerian athletes, through our Athlete of the Week initative and The Athletic Heat Awards.
AISP will be done through teaching students of each schools the values of athletics, benefits of participating in sports and having a professional career in any sector associated with it, while also educating on how to balance school and sports effectively.
Also key significance will be paid to scouting for potential talents that will be carefully selected by a professional grassroots coach, as the founders of Athletic Heat believe in young untapped talents in secondary schools, which was how they were discovered before going on to become State and National Champions.
To work and serve as a worthy role model to the students, the organizers have carefully chosen star Nigerian athlete Abejoye, who’s presently the most striking figure in Lagos Athletics being Nigeria’s fastest Hurdler and Africa’s second fastest in 2018; also being a perfect example of excellently going through the phase of being a student athlete in Nigeria.
Educationally, he’s a 2016 graduate from University of Lagos, bagging BSc. Honours in Business Education and currently preparing to start his Master’s degree. Track wise, he’s had an outstanding 2018 breakout year both within the country and in the continent.
His steady rise to stardom has seen him stamp his feet as the man to beat in the 110m hurdles in Nigeria, going under 14s mark five times this year and staying unbeaten on the home front.
He made his debut appearance for Nigeria at the Commonwealth Games back in April, and followed that up with a Silver medal at the African Senior Athletics Championships in Asaba, which automatically booked his spot as Africa’s second representative in the 110m hurdles, at the IAAF Continental Cup in Ostrava.
Noteworthy is that Abejoye was the only home-based male athlete to represent Africa at the Championship which was laudable indeed, in addition to running a Personal best of 13.84s, the fastest by a Nigerian since 2016.
Asides these being the major qualities of being chosen, he’ll be making a re-appearance at St. Finbarrs as a worthy alumni of the college, while in addition CMS Grammar School enjoys the privilege of having a worthy alumnus in Ese Oguma, the founder of Athletic Heat.
These schools has shown commitment in supporting their sports performing students over the years.
St. Finbarrs College gives out scholarships to students in public schools who show potentials of becoming top professionals in different sports by covering tuition, feeding and accommodation for them to train and learn in a conducive environment.
On the other hand, CMS Grammar School is known to produce top athletes and their relay squad are always feared when the step out to compete with other schools, as they focus on grooming students both in the classroom and on the field.
One of the high points of this tour will be a race between Abejoye and the fastest students from each school, with the winners going home with an autographed merchandize from the star athlete.
With this partnership, the organizers hope to expand and make it a nationwide project where more schools will be covered not just in Lagos State but across Nigeria, with other top Nigerian athletes serving as models and inspiration to the students.
Huge appreciation goes to Yesir Foundation, coming on board as the major sponsor of this edition, while more partners and sponsors are welcomed in our follow up editions.
