4th Golden League postponed till May 25th-26th in Abuja
The 4th leg of the Golden League series which was scheduled for today, Friday 5th- Saturday 6th May has now been postponed till May 25th-26th.
TheGolden League which kicked off at the Kaduna leg in December has had athletes storming to PB’s and even National Records. The 2nd leg of the series was held in Port Harcourt where Queen Obisesan broke the National Record in the Women’s Hammer Throw. The 3rd leg which was initially scheduled for Ibadan was done in Abuja with Seye Ogunlewe as the star athlete of the competition, winning the men’s 100m in 10.24s.
Speaking to the Technical Director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Mr Sunday Adeleye, he stated that the competition was moved because of lack of funds.
“There’s no money Since we got into office, we haven’t received anything from the government, we have been running it ourselves with a few religious people. We can’t be running it and people are there calling us thieves and all that, so we are waiting for government.
He continued, “We are trying to see sponsors and we are talking to them but then after I checked the program, the break between this one and the next one is long, so I said lets move it forward then after the 4th leg we can have the 5th one after two weeks then prepare for the African Championships trials on July. With this, there is a sequence, it’s not doing a competition then after a month before we have another one.”
Mr Sunday also disclosed that the 4th leg will hold at the National Stadium, Abuja.
