Serena Williams excited over Team Nigeria’s participation at Winter Olympics

American professional Tennis player, Serena Williams has expressed excitement over Nigeria’s Bobsled team participation at the 2018 Winter Olympics taking place in Pyeongchang County, South Korea from February 9 – 25th and according to her, the video of the 3 ladies gives her ‘chills’.

The 23 Grand Slam winner who took to her Instagram page yesterday to post a video of the three Record-breaking Nigerians said; “This video literally gave me chills, I am so excited to watch Nigeria compete in the winter Olympics bobsledding race the first time an African country has ever competed in bobsledding!”

The video which is now viral was an advert by Beats Electronics producers of Beats By Dre Ear/Headphones to announce their partnership with the Nigerian Bobsled Team who are being managed by Temple Management Company.

The trio; Seun Adigun, Ngozi Onwumere and Akuoma Omeoga are set to make history in a few weeks as they become the first ever athletes from Africa to compete at a Winter Olympic Games.

Seun  is an American-based athlete competed for Nigeria in the 100m hurdles and 60m hurdles at the Olympic Games (2012), World Championships (2009 & 2011), World Indoor Championships (2009 & 2012) amongst other competitions. She is the founder and Driver of the Nigerian Bobsleigh Team.

Ngozi who is a graduate of University of Houston competed for Nigeria as a Track and Field representative winning a Gold and Silver at the 2015 All-African Games in Brazzaville, Congo in the 4x100m and 200m respectively. “When the opportunity was presented to be a member of Nigeria’s first ever Bobsled team, there was no question at all. I would love to bring honor to the land we love with my fellow Naija women of integrity.”  She said in an interview.

Akuoma was a collegiate athlete for University of Minnesota, USA where she competed in the 100m, 200m and Long Jump. She will serve a as brakeman.

The Nigerian team who are likely to be the cynosure of eyes at the event said they are determined to leave their foot print on the sand of history on one hand and encourage others to banish fear in their lives and be ready to venture into any area of life and make a mark.

“Our goal is to create a legacy where people will never be limited by the fear of the unknown.”

The Bobsled Team is fully supported by Temple Management Company, Under Armour, VISA, the world’s oldest Helmet company based in Belgium Lazer and now Beats by Dre
