ORU’s Aniekeme Alphonsus lands #SummitTF Athlete of the Week
It can only get back for Nigeria’s 2017 Junior & Senior 100m Champion, Aniekeme Alphonsus who has began her collegiate career on a high note. The fmr. Uniport athlete made her debut for the Golden Eagles of Oral Robert University last Saturday at Bob Timmons Challenge hosted by University of Kansas where she posted a time of 7.42s to finish 2nd in the Women’s 60m. It was a remarkable moment for her as she broke her school’s record in the process.
Following this achievement, thesummitleague.org accoladed her with the title of Women’s Athlete of the Week. According to The League Summit, the NUGA Champion was selected as a recipient of the award by virtue of the following:
- Emerged with two second-place performances (60-meter dash & 4x400m relay)
- In her collegiate debut, broke the school record in the 60m (7.42)
- Tied for second on the NCAA performance list this season in the 60m leading The Summit League
- The ORU women’s 4×4 time ranks eighth in the country this season.
One meet, One school record and One @thesummitleague Athlete of the Week to her name! Aniekeme who has a Personal Best of 11.34s and 23.78s was a force to reckon with during the 2017 Athletic season, winning the 100m Gold at the Nigerian University Games, National U20 and National Senior Championships. She is certainly not resting on her hoares as she hopes to go even faster as the season progresses.
