Blessing Okagbare makes her fifth World Championships final

2013 World Championships Silver medalist,  Blessing Okagbare proved to
have a better chance in picking a medal in the Vertical Jump than in
the sprint on Day 6 of the ongoing IAAF World Championships in London.

The 2008 Olympic Silver medalist in the discipline alongside National
Champion,  Ese Brume were the only Nigerians who competed on Day 6.

Brume competed in Group A of the women’s Long Jump qualification where
she jumped progressive distances of 6.16m,  6.29m and 6.38m but those
jumps could not qualify her into the final unlike 2016 wherein she
finished 5th in the final. The 2016 African Champion finished 9th in
her group.

Sapele-born athlete,  Blessing Okagbare lifted our hope once more as
she also produced successive jumps in Group B and it was good enough
for her to make the final.

Okagbare jumped a distance of 6.21m in her first attempt and bettered
it in the second round,  leaping a mark of 6.51m as she fouled the
last jump.

She was in a qualification group  which had the likes of 2013 World
Champion,  Brittney Reese and British Record holder,  Lorraine Ugen.

The Brit topped the group with 6.63m.  Okagbare was second in 6.51m
while Reese finished third in 6.50m.

Blessing Okagbare will be back in action on Friday,  August 11th to
compete in the final and hopefully pick a medal like she did in 2013.
