Mercy Abire and Omeiza Akerele shine at Bob Timmons Challenge.

The 2016-17 Indoor season began yesterday, December 2 for Oral Robert University track and field team, Golden Eagles with the Bob Timmons Challenge at Anschutz Sports Pavilion, Kansas, USA.

Nigeria was well represented as two of our own, Mercy Abire and Akerele Omeiza competed for Oral Robert University.
Abire who is a freshman at the University, competed in the Women’s Long Jump where she finished top with a leap of 5.74m. Mercy who made her debut appearance for the Golden Eagles, had this to say,

“I’m excited and all thanks to God. Getting my first indoor games, I did not understand some rules and all about it but I just had fun” said the elated jumper.

Its worthy to note that Mercy won by more than a foot jumping nearly 13 inches farther than the second place finisher.

Meanwhile on the track, Nigeria’s 400m athlete, Akerele Omeiza competed in the 60m where he posted a time of 6.93s. He later helped his school finish 2nd in the 4x400m in a time of 3:15.50s.

Next stop for the Golden Eagles of ORU would be January 6th at the Bill Easton Classic hosted by The University of Kansas. Hopefully Aniekeme Alphonsus and Victor Peka who just got full scholarship grants to the school would have joined them to add their quota.
